In Memoriam: Dr. Loretta Ford

We join the nursing community in the loss of pioneer, Dr. Loretta C. Ford, EdD, RN, PNP, FAANP, FAAN.
The American Nurses Association joins the healthcare community in mourning the loss of visionary nurse leader Loretta C. Ford, EdD, RN, PNP, FAANP, FAAN, who died on January 22 at her home in Florida. Dr. Ford was widely recognized as co-founder of the nurse practitioner role and was instrumental in developing the unification model of nursing, a comprehensive approach combining education, research, and clinical practice. Inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame in 2011, she was honored by the American Academy of Nursing as a Living Legend in 1999. Her long life of service, guiding light, and legacy will continue to be an inspiration to all who dream of what is possible and endeavor to make it so.
