Central District Health Department is seeking an experienced, practicing Clinical Specialist who is excited to share expertise with peer professional staff.  It is anticipated that 3/4 of the time will be spent serving clients in the clinic setting and 1/4 of the time spent in mentorship. 

Example of Duties

  • Assist Clinic Manager by providing peer mentoring on a variety of clinic services.
  • Advise staff on appropriate patient treatments and instructs staff on various therapy regimens; conducts in-service training in consultation with Clinic Manager and/or Medical Director.
  • Provide primary medical care, treatment and follow-up services; perform related work.
  • Provides direct client care for acute and chronic illness and disease, including assessing, diagnosing, planning, and prescribing pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments, therapeutic and corrective measures, and health promotion and preventive care.
  • Work in a Public Health clinical environment. 
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgment and problem solving, excellent clinic and communication skills. and the ability to lead a clinical team.
  • Initiates, performs, and interprets screening for laboratory tests, and prescribes medication in accordance with established protocols.
  • Collaborate with other programs in order to integrate services for optimal patient care
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Eligibility for registration as Physician Assistant with the Board of Medicine or Nurse Practitioner with the Board of Nursing.

Supplemental Information

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Two plus years of supervisory experience in the clinic setting. Supervision, coaching of peer staff desired.
  • Experience providing on-the-job training to peers.
  • Experience in service delivery to populations across the lifespan; specifically including infant and well child visits, annual physical exams for adolescents, women and men; primary care (i.e. drainage of abscesses, suturing as covered in the defined scope of practice, Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, Thyroid, Weight management, etc).
